Bordeaux (Burdegala) was given a grant of murage dated 28/7/1220.

This was in the form of:-

Wording
Pictavia et Wasconia. Rex senescallo suo Pictavie et Wasconie, et omnibus ad quos presentes littere pervenerint, salutem. Sciatis quod probis et fidelibus hominibus nostris de Burdegala, in auxilium ville Burdegale claudende, concessimus quod in tres annos a festo Sancti Michaelis, anno regni nostri quarto, capiant de consuetudine de quolibet dolio vini venalis ducto subtus villam Burdegale navigio, duos sterlingos; et preterea de fretto ipsius navis unum sterlingum; et de singulis libris cujuslibet mercandise venalis que in villam Burdegale venerit, vel subtus navigio transierit, duos denarios monete illius, videlicet Burdegalensis; exceptis rebus et mercandisis ville nostre Regule quas inde quietas esse volumus. Volumus etiam quod pecunia que provenerit ex consuetudinibus illis per manum majoris et duorum proborum hominum de Burdegala salvo colligatur et reservetur, nec expendatur aliquatenus nisi in predicta villa Burdegale claudenda et firmanda. Elapsis autem tribus annis predictis, volumus et mandamus quod consuetude predicta cesset penitus et aboleatur; ita quod occasione hujus concessionis nostre a nullo postea capiatur vel exigatur. Mandamus igitur et precipimus quod predicti probi homines nostri Burdegale habeant et capiant usque in finem predictorum trium annorum in auxilium ville sue firmande consuetudinem predictam, sicut predictum est; et quod nullus super hoc eos impediat vel molestat (sic). In cujus rei, etc. Teste H. etc. apud Clerkenewell, xxviij die Julii, anno etc. quarto. Per eundem et consilium domini regis.
