Newcastle-upon-Tyne was given a grant of murage dated 2/4/1378.

This was in the form of:-

Grant of murage and pontage to the mayor, bailiffs, and good men of Newcastle-on-Tyne for four years in addition to the term, whereof four years are unexpired, of the late king's grant to them of murage, to be taken by John del Chaumbre, Thomas de Heryngton, Thomas Wodman, Thomas Tribble and William Redmershill.

Granted by Richard II. (Regnal year 1). Granted at Westminster.
