In 1339 Oct 25, Oliver de Denham (Oliver Dinham) was granted, by Edward III, (In year 13 of his reign) a Confirmation licence to crenellate Sampford Peverell (Sampford Peverell)
Exemplification under the seal now in use of letters patent, dated 23 July, 11 Edward III. being a licence for Oliver de Denharn to crenellate the dwelling-place of his manor of Sampford Peverell, co. Devon. (CPR)

Licence to crenellate granted to Oliver Dinham in 1337 and 1339.

Was this licence more to do with asserting Oliver's claims to this inheritance over claim of his elder brother's son (John b. 1317/18)? the confirmation obtained when John had just come of age.
