Winchester was given a grant of murage dated 10/2/1422.

Commission to the mayor and bailiffs of the city of Winchester, because many defects exist in the walls and towers of the enclosure of the city, to compel all who have lands and rents in the city and liberty and all others who dwell there continually and live by merchandise to make contribution according to their state and faculties for the repair of the walls, towers and enclosure.
