licence obtained at a time when Edenstowe and the abbot of Croyland (The mother house) were in armed conflict with Thomas Wake, lord of Liddel.

Original source is;

(In fact, the original source given is usually a transcription/translation of what are precious medieval documents not readily availably. It should be noted that these transcription/translations often date to the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries and that unwitting bias of transcribers may affect the translation. Care should also be taken to avoid giving modern meaning to the medieval use of certain stock words and terms. Licentia is best translated as 'freedom to' not 'permission'.)

Significant later sources are;

Prior Thomas de Nassington (held office 1322 - 1353)
Edenstowe (d. 1350) in 1333 is clerk of the parliament and first receiver of petitions 'pour Engleterre"

Prior Thomas de Nassington (held office 1322 - 1353) probably Oxford graduate in 1309. (The Rolls and Register of Bishop Oliver Sutton 1280-1299 Vol. VII, Ed., R. Hill, 1984.)
