List of Licences to Crenellate

This is a list of the buildings, in England and Wales, known or suggested to have been granted a licence to crenellate. There are also included some other documents that have been proposed as licences to crenellate, but which can be rejected as such. Also in the list are a few houses licenced to be fortified but specifically without crenellations.

For information on the sources used to produce this list and some analysis of the list see Licences to Crenellate.
It should be noted that the original sources of this information is handwritten medieval latin, often writing in a small hand with many abbreviations, and that different authors have transcribed some of the words, particularly place names, differently. Alternative transcriptions are given in [square brackets]. Information not given in the primary source (or calendar) but derived from context or other sources is in {curly brackets}.
Clicking on the date will give a page with full details of the licence. Clicking on the place name will open the related site page of the Gatehouse gazetteer giving details of the house or building licenced.
