Newcastle-upon-Tyne was given a grant of murage dated 12/9/1304.

This was in the form of:-

Grant to the bailiffs and good men of Newcastle-on-Tyne of murage for five years from St. Matthew, to be taken by the hands of Gilbert le Flemynge, Adam de Galwey and John Gatigaung, burgesses thereof, on every ship coming to that town laden with merchandise other than wine 4d. on every boat so laden 2d. &c. By K. on the information of J. de Drokenesford.
