Ellesmere was given a grant of murage dated 30/6/1258.

This was in the form of:-

Wording
Grant to Peter de Monte Forti, keeper of the manor of Ellesmere, of murage for the town of Ellesmere for five years from St. Peter's Chains.

Granted by Henry III. (Regnal year 42). Granted at Oxford.

Comments
8 months seems a long time to delay a grant (unless there was an earlier, unrecorded, grant). I've interpreted this as a backdated grant (although this implies murage was being taken before the grant was given - also suggestive of earlier grants).
