Wells (Welles) was given a grant of murage dated 20/7/1341 but this grant was then revoked.

Grant to the mayor, bailiffs and burgesses of Welles of murage for five years on things for sale coming to their borough by land. By K. & C. and by fine of 5 marks.

Comments
The licence to crenellate issued three days earlier (Calendar of Charter Rolls Vol. 5 p. 6-7) was revoked shortly afterward (per considerationem curie) and presumably the murage was not collected.
Quite a stiff fine; the licence was revoked prob. on episcopal objections (Coulson).
