Coventry (Coventre) was given a grant of murage dated 10/6/1418.

This was in the form of:-

Wording
Licence, for 40l. paid in the hanaper by the mayor and commonalty of the town of Coventre, for the alienation to them in mortmain by John Leder of Coventre and John Esterton of Coventre of 20 messuages in the same town, of which 6 are held of the king in burgage and 14 are not held of the king, by John Preston of a messuage and 20s. rent in the said town, held of the king in burgage and by the said John Leder and Richard Southam, Laurence Cook and William Dilcok of the reversion of 25 messuages, 27 acres of land and 13s. rent in the said town, of which 17 messuages and 3 acres of land and a messuage, two shops and a garden from which the said 13s. rent come are held of the king in burgage and 8 messuages and 24 acres of land are not held of the king, which John Shipley son of Robert Shipley holds for life, worth besides the rent 7l. 14s. 4d. yearly, as appears by divers inquisitions taken before William Bapthorpe, escheator in the county of Warwick, to hold in aid of the support of the charges of the town to the value of 10l. yearly in part satisfaction of a licence by letters patent {11 May 1417}.
