Tiefort Castle (The Gatehouse Record)

In the historic county of Northumberland.
Modern Authority of Northumberland.
1974 county of Northumberland.
Medieval County of Northumberland.

Tiefort Castle has been described as a Uncertain although is doubtful that it was such.

There are masonry ruins/remnants remains.

Comments

Renn suggests either Styford, Tweedmouth and Tynemouth. King suggests Mitford. Given the other castles mentioned in that source are the major castles of Newcastle, Durham, Norham and Berwick arguably Tynemouth is the most likely although Mitford is also a reasonable suggestion and is more similar in name form. Can certainly be rejected as the the site of an otherwise unknown castle.
